ALEXIA MONTIBON at Royal Mastodon Society
Alexia's recent work focuses on the fragility of life: human, animal and plant-related. She is interested
in how living forms exist within an environment as well as the way in which they evolve, erode and
move through specified times and places.
Some of her earlier paintings transpose images of human body parts, like legs or feet, within
surroundings found in nature such as a beach rock or a mountain cliff. Other paintings depict
representations of the physical movement of elements such as air and fire as well as atmospheric
moments both observed and imagined around the city of Los Angeles, California.
Alexia's latest paintings are acrylic on stretched canvas. She uses a multi-layered, glazing technique that
both heightens colors and affects the way that they are perceived in different lighting situations.
